Our purpose

INONGE ZITA exists to show that fine jewellery can be beautiful, commercially rigorous and rooted in African value creation. We design in Denmark and work alongside Zambian gem cutters and artisans, using responsibly sourced gemstones to create jewellery that carries skills, income and possibility back to the communities where the stones begin their journey.

The challenge

Africa is rich in gemstones, yet too much of their economic value is created far from home. Raw materials are often exported before they are cut, polished, designed or transformed into finished luxury goods. Communities closest to the source may carry the social and environmental costs of extraction, while having limited opportunity to take part in the higher-value stages of the jewellery journey. INONGE ZITA was founded to help create a practical, hopeful alternative.

You become part of a model in which African gemstones can be cut, polished, designed and brought to market with greater participation from the people and places closest to them. INONGE ZITA collaborates with Design Thinking Africa to help connect African talent to training, creative opportunity and market pathways. Design Thinking Africa operates independently and is responsible for its own programmes, governance and reporting.
